Life journey is always a rocky one, full of ups and downs that falls in front of one's path. No straight way, no shortcuts, but only countless bends accompanied by hardship and blood. How I wish life would have been simpler if I'm born with a silver spoon. Then all you need to is just forking out money and poaching talents in your quest to uncover the legendary fountain of wealth.

Initial thoughts and social norms always portrays an image of Life Science students on a road of easy success after graduation. "They are the smarter batch of the bunch and are fortunate to clinch a spot in their dream course!" How true is this stereotype? "smarter"? Probably... "fortunate"? Never! Who will ever understand how difficult the road to success will be in the Life Science related fields?

Had heard from a senior that local Universities are only offering close to 10 spots in Life Science related degree courses to the Polytechnic students in Singapore. Ignoring all other factors and taking into concern that only one out of several thousands will be offered the chance into local Universities. How possible will that be? Thinking if results play major role in your future footsteps? Yes, definitely! But how many with GPA 4.0 will there be? Will this so called "perfect" aggregate ensure you a spot? NEVER!

Choosing overseas Universities may be the only made possible option for us Polytechnic students if we want a better life. Who will ever wish to be a nobody in his entire live? No fame, no life, no dignity, no egoism, no future = NO MONEY! High school fees to be taken care of... Moreover living expenses! Much more, living away from your love ones and making you worry for their well being. That is the greatest obstacle to overcome.

With just a Diploma, who will take such risk to put important multi million project on your hand? How will one be able to support his family and provides a satisfying life for the one he loves? His wife to suffer and worry about survivor? His kid to be held in the captive of "zero-luxury"? His parents having bad retirement instead of a golden moment in life?

"Money, the root of all evil."? "Money, the root of infinite possibilities!"

Republic Polytechnic had really been a turning point in my life. Having to change my own style of learning and adopting to the Problem-Based Learning had also exposed me to be responsible for my self development and making me more matured as compared. It also make me more analytical when obstacles crosses my path by allowing me to pick out the main issue to be settled instead of being superficial.

Being part of the Management Committee in the Student Ambassadors Interest Group brought about many once in a life time experience and adding valuable entries into my diary of life. Given the starting opportunity to host in the annual Student Ambassadors Appointment Ceremony brought me to the stage of the public in hosting events like the Japanese Visit from Kagoshima Higashi High School and the Opening Ceremony in Open House 06.

During the course of the academic, I have been honored to had met with some of the most prestigious and highly reputable icons in Singapore like the Minister of Education, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Mr Lee Hsien Yang, and the Mayor of Woodlands, Dr Teo Ho Pin.

The most memorable moment would non other be being part of the President Visit on late 2005. I am given the chance to be among many lucky students to be given the chance to pose questions to the Man of all Singaporeans, Mr S.R Nathan, regarding the future prospect of the biomedical industries and its development. It had also taught me how to present myself well in such occasions.

I am also fortunate to be involved in numerous student development organized by the Student Council like the Personality Profiling which they had created a detailed report of my leadership model, IQ and EQ, and also my nature. This had been greatly beneficial to me in areas of further development and also areas of improvement. Months ago, I had been invited to undergo a 9 days leadership training in Outwards Bound Singapore. It had taught me ways of handling problems and people, risk and time management, independence, survival skills in the wild, and also physical and mental determination.

My life in Republic Polytechnic had brought me to a U-turn back from a plain fun seeker and from hiding in my own comfort zone.

Bad bad days to ever been through... Caught the teeny weenie flu bug on the eve of Chinese New Year which now amounted to a whole colony of them invading my always so stagnant white blood cell... Well, I'm grateful that they don't grow and multiply like the viruses do... I don't wish to get leukaemia anyway...

Spent my whole new year resting on my bed (occasionally spreading them to some of my friends =X)... Got the least amount of red packet ever since my birth... Worst still, have to forgo all the Chinese new year goodies like Rou Gan, pineapple tarts, festive cookies, and the cooking by my dearest AUNT!

My aunt will cook restaurant grade food for the whole pool of relatives visiting her. But ever after some health problems she suffered, food had eventually got blander... Still taste superb although but lacking the extra kick...

*Sob* I want to recover as soon as possible! I want to enjoy my life! I want back my most valuable wealth! MY HEALTH!

Stereotype is an oversimplified standardized image or idea held by one person or group of another. Given today's context, we understand from gender stereotypes that they are perceptions on the roles and behaviors between both the male and female. People generally portray the image of the business world as male dominated where females are restricted to taking care of family needs due to cultural norms. Idea of exchanging roles between the genders had spark controversy and invoked discrimination from the eyes of the society.

Through the ages of human evolution, there had been domination shown from the both genders. Dated 20,000 years ago, males are especially valued due to their possession of great strength which makes them ideal and capable hunters. Some of the female counterpart was also being regarded as goddesses and the bearers of the miracle of birth at the same time. Gradually, the females became less respected.

The term "Witch" and "Women" were used synonymously. "All wickedness is but little to the wickedness of a woman... It is not good to marry: What else is woman but a foe to friendship, an un-escapable punishment, a necessary evil, a natural temptation, a desirable calamity, a domestic danger, a delectable detriment, an evil of nature, painted with fair colors." quoted from the book (The Witches' Hammer). It shows the degradation of the females to be the follower of darkness through gender stereotyping.

What concretes to the reliability of the stereotype? If stereotyping is a standardized image, why do we beg to see difference in the abilities and characteristics among people of the same gender? The answer lies on whether the aspect is being nurtured or natured.

Taking the example of the males being regarded more superior than the females in business as an example. Only if one is able to investigate and unravel the origin and giving a logical explanation through researches, then it allows the proving of this gender stereotype. We understand that the male had the hormone, testerone, which amounted to the aggressiveness and anger. These characteristics may allow the males to be logically more decisive and partial in the business world. This had been further backed up after data analysis that among the list of the top 800 CEOs, 799 of them are males where the female only occupies 1 position.

Thus, I believe gender stereotyping can be proven or disproved by scientific research carried out rather than the social perceptions on the issues.

"Someone who lives in your heart" Lyrics

Last night, I dreamt that you were beside me
It seemed so real, that I cried
When you touched me, you're my angel
And you've given me wings
And I'll fly away with you wherever you go
Cause you've filled my heart and you've captured my soul
And baby I want you to know

If there's one thing in this world that I know is true
It's the love that I feel when I'm thinking of you
No ocean, no mountain can keep us apart
Cause no one can take away someone who lives in your heart
All out hopes and our dreams are alive
I'll carry you with me through distance and time
Nothing in this world can keep us apart
No one can take away someone who lives in your heart

And I know there's a million stars betwen us
But they won't stop my longing
To hold you and to kiss you
How I love you

And I'll find my way to you wherever you are
Coz you're in my soul and you've got my heart
And your love will carry me on

If there's one thing in this world that I know is true
It's the love that I feel when I'm thinking of you
No ocean or mountain could keep us apart
Coz no one can take away someone who lives in your heart
All the hopes and the dreams are alive
I'll carry it with me through distance and time
No one in this world could keep us apart
Coz no one can take away someone who lives in your heart
